DANVILLE — Two people are behind bars in connection with an armed robbery at a Danville gas station and convenience store earlier this week.

Courtland E. H. Rowell, 19, and Elizabeth A. Roberson, 27, both of Danville, were arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm. They were expected to appear in Vermilion County Circuit Court this afternoon.

Police Cmdr. Josh Webb said officers were called to Casey's General Store, 845 E. Voorhees St., at 11:23 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, an employee reported that a man and woman, both of whom were wearing masks and black hooded sweatshirts, entered the store. The man pointed a handgun at her, while the woman took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

Both suspects then ran away to the west.

Webb said other officers responding to the incident checked the surrounding area and located a vehicle leaving the scene. They saw the occupants matched the description of the suspects and stopped the vehicle.

Webb said the suspects were arrested after they were identified and found to have an undisclosed amount of cash and other items, including a stolen firearm, in their possession.

Webb said police are also looking into whether Rowell and Roberson robbed another Casey's, at 1201 E. Main St., on Sunday night. During that incident, employees reported that a man and woman robbed the store at gunpoint, stole cash and fled on foot.

Anyone with any information on either incident is asked to call police at 217-431-2250 or, if wishing to remain anonymous, Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-8477.
