The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association will honor this year's Hall of Fame class Saturday at Normal's Redbird Arena. There are oodles of local and Illinois connections.
Among the men's players being inducted are former Illini VICTOR CHUKWUDEBE, RICH McBRIDE and DAMIR KRUPILIJA. Former Illini women's standouts MARY PAT CONNOLLY and AMINATA YANNI are also among the inductees.
Recently retired Cissna Park boys' basketball coach KEVIN LONG joins the hall this year. So do BARRY BAUER of Watseka and Arthur's DALE SCHURING.
Former Sullivan players SHERI (ADAMS) McCAIN and ALLYSON (GLAZEBROOK) KUNZ are also part of the class. McCain is the current Sullivan coach.
The late TIM NUGENT, considered the father of wheelchair sports at Illinois, enters as a friend of basketball.
On to my weekend recommendations:
"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," 10:30 p.m., CBS
It has been another good week for Colbert, who earlier welcomed Seth Rogen, Christina Applegate and James Taylor. Tonight's guests include Craig Ferguson and Ronda Rousey.
Kentucky Derby, 1:30 p.m., NBC
The 145th edition of the Run for the Roses actually starts about 5:50 p.m. Omaha Beach was the favorite before being scratched Wednesday. T.O.T.M. is now going with Game Winner in a close call over Improbable.
"The Avengers," 4 p.m., FX
The latest installment, "Avengers: Endgame," is making billions at the box office. Check out the original with Robert Downey Jr. and his super friends.
