HOMER — A woman died in a fire Friday afternoon at her Homer residence.
Angela Lewis, 57, was found in the garage of the home in the 600 block of South Church Street, where the fire started, Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said.
The home is about two blocks east of Illinois 49.
The fire, reported at 3:44 p.m., was extinguished within about an hour, fire officials said.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by Northrup at 5:55 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Three other family members and four animals escaped the fire, which jumped from the detached garage to the house, Homer Fire Chief Don Happ said.

UPDATE, 5:25 p.m.:
HOMER — An adult woman died in a fire at her home Friday afternoon in Homer.
Homer Fire Chief Don Happ said she was found in the garage of the home in the 600 block of South Church Street, where the fire started. The home is about two blocks east of Illinois 49.
The fire was reported at 3:44 p.m. and was out within about an hour.
Three other family members and four animals escaped the fire, which jumped from the detached garage to the house, Happ said.
"It just got right into the house and destroyed it," he said.
Investigators from the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System in the area were called to see if they could determine what sparked the fatal fire.
Happ estimated the loss at $130,000 to the structure and contents.
Happ said his department received help from about eight other area departments.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office are also investigating.
The woman's name has not yet been released.

HOMER — The Illinois State Fire Marshal's office and an investigator have been called to Homer to help volunteer firefighters figure out what started a house fire there. The fire has been extinguished.

HOMER — Several area fire departments have come to help Homer firefighters put out a house fire Friday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the home on South Church Street, about two blocks east of Illinois 49, at 3:44 p.m.
Initial reports were that the garage was on fire but the fire apparently spread to other parts of the single-story home.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
