New 3:42 p.m. Friday:

Prosecutors said a blow to the head led to bleeding on the brain and the death of a rural Danville woman at the hand of her wife last weekend.

Vermilion County First Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber made the comments as 49 year-old Shelley Murphy was charged Friday with three counts of first degree murder in the death of 61 year-old Daye Murphy.  Shelley Murphy remains in custody on $1 million bond ahead of a preliminary hearing on Aug. 3.

Weber said the women got in a fight on Sunday at their home in the 500 block of Vance Lane, west of Danville.  Weber said Shelley Murphy struck Daye Murphy several times, including a blow to the side of the head that caused brain bleeding.

Weber said Daye Murphy went into another room and was not discovered until Wednesday, when she was found unconscious on the floor.

Weber did not say what the two women were fighting about, but she said Shelley Murphy admitted to striking her partner in the side of the head.

Original story:

The Vermilion County Sheriff's Department said an arrest has been made in connection to a murder of a woman earlier this week west of Danville.

Captain Michael Hartshorn on Friday said 49-year-old Shelley Murphy was arrested in the death of her wife, 61-year-old Daye Lynn Murphy.

Hartshorn said deputies on Wednesday responded to a house in the 500 block of Vance Lane for a report of a deceased person. He said the two women had been in a fight on Sunday and that it was determined that Daye Lynn Murphy died as a result of the injuries she suffered during that fight.
