URBANA — An 85-year-old Urbana man who allegedly molested children in his care more than 15 years ago has been criminally charged.

Lee Pardy, who listed an address in the 5100 block of North Cunningham Avenue, was issued a summons to appear in court Feb. 7 to be arraigned on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The charges filed allege that between 2000 and 2001, he molested a child, then aged 10 and 11, for whom he baby-sat regularly.

Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson said in mid-December, two women came to the sheriff's office to report "numerous incidents of past criminal sexual assaults" allegedly committed by Pardy in his home.

Apperson said the timing of the allegations by one of the women fell outside the statute of limitations for prosecution.

The charges filed Jan. 15 against Pardy relate to the more recent contact in 2000 and 2001. Apperson said Pardy admitted to the conduct.

Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony carrying penalties upon conviction ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.
